Foley
is the recreation of sound in a movie which matches the sound shown in
the film. These are every-day sounds which may have been too quiet or
unclear when recorded through the camera mic.
Recording the background noises separately creates a sense of depth throughout the film.
Whilst
editing the beginning scene Jak is typing on the keyboard. Even though
the sound was clear it as too quiet with the music behind it and when I
increased the sound it just made the background noise more apparent (e.g
people talking in the room next to us).

To
fix this I decided to use the foley technique and to record some sound
myself separately. I put my blue yeti microphone next to my Corsair Strafe
keyboard. This is a keyboard with brown mechanical switches which are
the "best sounding keyboards" in my personal opinion. After recording
the typing and mouse clicking I imported the footage into my project and
replaced the audio. Overall it doesn't add a massive effect but in my
opinion it makes it a lot more professional as its what film studio's
do.
