Props are a huge part of thrillers, they can be used in many ways to make a scene more effective and believable. They are used to build tension and suspense. Typical weapons used in thrillers are guns, knives and explosives, however household items such as cutlery,
glass bottles and other sharp objects can be
used to make the person look desperate in the fight or to make out they don’t
know what they are doing.

For the gun we used a prop pistol. If you look closely in some of the shots you can see the paintwork on the pistol scratched off showing blue but there was nothing we could really do about that. I colour corrected the footage and added a lot of sharpen to make the gun shine and look metallic.
We used a bunch of household knives for the weapons scene on the shelf, we also used some screw drivers to suggest the person uses them to get into places, get past security etc.
For the blood on the knife (far right in picture above) we used normal household tomato ketchup, we'd previously used proper fake blood in small films I had made before and u really get the same effect so we just went with this. We only added blood to this knife as one of the photos shown on the board beneath this shelf was a picture of a murder weapon (being a blood stained knife), so we decided to include it.
